Grooves, one of my favourite music magazines, is dropping its print version. Future issues will be available in a digital format only.
I am curious if there will be enough subscribers of these digital issues (a subscription costs $ 10 for 4 issues), because there is so much free stuff on the internet and most people are not (yet) willing to pay for content. But Grooves was always a very good, high-quality magazine, so maybe they won’t loose too many readers. At least that’s what i hope. Good luck!

I just wondered what other labels have blogs. Big Dada has a weblog for quite a while, the folks at Static Caravan have one too and G7 Welcoming Committee are spreading their political messages through a blog as well.
These are the ones I know of. Any others?

Vertical Form, a label we’ve always liked very much, closes its doors. While it’s really sad that we won’t hear any new releases from them, there’s still an amazing backcatalog to discover. Here’s probably the best chance you’ll ever get to do that:
We’ve bought some remnants from the distributor and sell them at a bargain price of just 4.90 Euro for each CD/LP/2LP/12″. Some items are already gone, since we’ve only had a few and sold about 50 records within the first hours of this campaign, but there are still some great records available: first class underground hiphop by Sixtoo and McEnroe, amazing alt.country by Mike Fellows (Royal Trux, Silver Jews, Rites of Spring), beautiful postrockish stuff from Corker/Conboy and electronic sounds in various forms by Einoma, Pan Am, Smyglyssna and The Rip Off Artist.
Unfortunately we still didn’t have the time to launch a english version of the mailorder website, so if you don’t understand any German you can also order by email (just tell us what you want to purchase and we’ll let you know how much the postage is).

Every Thursday we present one MP3 from our catalog (additionally to the ones you can find on the release pages on our website). These MP3s are only available on our server for a week, after that they are gone and will be replaced by another one. This week:
Giardini di Mirò “The Comforting Of A Transparent Life” (MP3, 4.6 MB) (removed)
This is from Giardini di Mirò’s “Punk… not Diet!”. Like the whole album, this song is just incredible.
“The Comforting…” was written by GdM together with Arne van Petegem, better known as Styrofoam. There was even an early demo version with his vocals. But in the end, GdM decided to have it sung by Alessandro who has also lent his vocals to 5 other songs.

I just found this in our webserver stats:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah23
If you know some facts or dirty little secrets about Noah, there’s your chance to share them with the world. Sure, we could do it ourselves, but writing Wikipedia articles about yourself or related people is pretty lame, isn’t it?
Btw, this is not about “our” Amanda Rogers.
Talking about encyclopedias: All German speaking folks should check out Indiepedia.

My Dad just sent me a review of Amanda’s show in Karlsruhe and some photos. We really like the dark one.
For all you german speaking folks, here’s the review (bottom line: he loved it, the show was sold out, Amanda presented “a perfect mix of power moments and silent parts”, there was even one guy older than him in the crowd and he totally disliked that too many people were smoking):
Lieber Christophe,
Papa

Every Thursday we present one MP3 from our catalog (additionally to the ones you can find on the release pages on our website). These MP3s are only available on our server for a week, after that they are gone and will be replaced by another one. This week:
Amanda Rogers “198d” (MP3, 3.1 MB) (removed)
When I first learned (at her website, i suppose) that Amanda is occasionally covering a tune from At The Drive-In at her live shows, I couldn’t really imagine how that could work. ATDI’s chaotic, highly energetic sound full of noisy outbursts and Amanda’s introverted, shy and fragile performance didn’t seem to go together. But if you listen to the MP3, you’ll see that it does work perfectly, which is not only the merit of Amanda, who managed to adapt the song to her own style, but also proof of the great songwriting qualities of ATDI.
Since I am a huge fan of ATDI, I was always curious to hear her version of that song, but unfortunately she never played it at the concerts I’ve been to (I’ve always forgot to request that song before her performances). So I was really glad when Amanda recorded that song for her new EP “Something Borrowed, Something Blue” (buy it at sonicane.com), that we’ve just released.
The original version of “198d” by ATDI was released on the EP “Vaya”, but it’s also included on the recent anthology CD “This Station Is Non-Operational” (get it here). You can also buy that song here or there.

Maybe it’s old news to some of you: Jukka from Giardini di Mirò has a weblog.
Most parts of the blog are written in Italian, but there are some interviews in English language, e.g. Hood, Jan Kruse (Human Empire/Morr Music), Markus Acher (Notwist, Lali Puna, 13 & God…), Piano Magic and Type records.
