Making room

The old store room
2006 will be our busiest year ever with lots of new releases, so we’ve had to make room for new records in our storage space. And a little organisation wouldn’t be bad either, as you can tell from the picture above.

Therefore we moved tons of heavy vinyl boxes to a new room (thanks to Fork for letting us use their basement). Here’s our warehouseman Tunçay 2nd rec co-owner Christophe Stoll after completing the job:

Our motto:
Reminder

And here’s an old relict we’ve found while cleaning up. This note was handed to Christophe and me during the very first German tour of Giardini di Mirò. If you ever wondered what the job of a tour manager is - now you know…

Scandinavian distribution

Starting with our forthcoming releases, dot will be our new distributor in Scandinavia. They will probably also add some of our back catalog sooner or later, so if you look for some older releases just ask them about it.

dot is also the distributor of great labels like Leaf, Type, Karate Joe, Tomlab, Rune Grammofon, Sonig, Smells Like Records and many more. We’re glad to be part of such a fine roster.

Giardini di Mirò interview and live clips

Exactly a year ago Giardini di Miro played a show in Basel, Switzerland. Wenn’s rockt filmed the concert and interviewed the band. Watch it here.

Rebecca, who was an intern here at 2nd rec, was part of the film crew and did the editing of the live clips and interview. Thanks Rebecca!

5

In December 2000 we released our very first record on 2nd rec. We can’t remember exactly when - there was no official release date back then, the record was “out” the day it arrived from the pressing plant - but it must have been around this time of the year. So this month we celebrate our 5th anniversary. Hooray!

Anniversaries are always a good occasion to look back and reflect the past, but right now we don’t have any time for that. We’ve got so much amazing releases planned for 2006, that those five years feel just like a little warm-up for what’s coming in the future.

But there will be some sort of “retrospective” quite soon. We are working on a compilation with songs from the past five years (plus some tracks from upcoming records), which we hope to release in January. It won’t be a CD however, but a free MP3 compilation which we are planning to distribute via P2P networks (BitTorrent most likely).

The fact that we are able to celebrate our fifth anniversary is of course owed to a lot of people. Without their help and support 2nd rec couldn’t exist.

First of all we’d like to thank everybody who purchased our records and went to our shows. Thanks as well for all the encouraging emails and letters we’ve got. Those kind words mean a lot to us.

Major props to everybody who helped spreading the word about 2nd rec - no matter if you are a journalist who wrote something favourable in a huge magazine or if you are “just” a fan that told his friend about our label.

We also would like to thank all of our business partners, especially handle with care for the best manufacturing service ever and our distributors, first of all those fine guys from Hausmusik who were really supportive and believed in us from the beginning.
