Info:
Although one might expect Tom de Geeter (aka Siaz) and Marcus Graap to be more than occupied with their respective main projects – Tom can look back on five albums and countless of gigs across Europe with Belgian avant hop trio Cavemen Speak and Marcus, too, has released a string of groundbreaking records with his own band Stacs of Stamina – time and again these two hyperactive creators squeeze in a few days, weeks or months for one or the other side project. Unafraid of bridging distances (Tom lives in the Belgian town of Kortrijk, Marcus in London) they regularly meet up to pursue their joint musical vision.

“Being Kurtwood” continues a string of fertile and varied endeavours. While Marcus contributed a few rhymes to the Cavemen Speak LP “Wooden Cast”, the Swedish-Belgian duo already surprised us with an entire album as The World After 4/02 or passed the mike back and forth in their electro-noise hop combo Gunporn (with Bleubird and Xndl).

Zucchini Drive, on the other hand, is far more than yet another spontaneous interlude. For their new album, the prolific team took several months to finetune the album, select the right beats, write the lyrics and hone their raps. Illustrious support was provided by a plethora of producers and guest musicians from indie rock to electronica, most of whom approached the tracks with decidedly unorthodox means.

On the opener “Painting Things In Harsh Colours”, for example, Italian band Giardini di Mirò blend dream pop guitars with fast break beats, on other tracks Markus Acher (The Notwist, 13 & God et al.) and Aqua Luminus III prove that lo-fi strumming and hip-hop DO mix while B. Fleischmann (Morr Music) cranks up his groove box to the max.

Further guest appearances include: Finnish mastermind Lauri, Styrofoam, Lord Grunge (of US hip-hop duo Grand Buffet), Pilot Balloon, Populous, Anticon member Alias and American emcee Bleubird who adds his inimitable raps to the mighty bounce of “Easy Tiger”.

Supported by this distinguished company Tom and Marcus have come up with a gem of an album that would leave most of their peers taking a well-deserved rest – but not those two. With “Being Kurtwood” awaiting release, the tireless pair are already out there hunting for new beats and raps for their follow-up release…

“It’s about killing your time right, we won’t get away.”
