No dividing opinions

Yesterday we went to Bologna and listened to the recordings of the new Giardini di Mirò album, tentatively called “Dividing Opinions”. It’ll be sooooooo good.

Info:
If we had to pick a release to represent our versatile label catalogue, it would have to be “Matters of Love and Death”, an album reflecting all styles and sounds that have wafted through the 2nd rec HQ over the last five years. Premature pigeonholers beware – any attempts at file-by-genre are unlikely to yield satisfactory results as Corrado Nuccini’s musical vision far exceeds the usual definitions of hip-hop, guitar and beyond.
Heart-rending string arrangements cling to gently distorted beats, melancholic guitar melodies sneak in behind choppy sample fragments and fragile vocals find themselves replaced by uncompromising raps. So, who is to say where hip-hop stops, post rock starts, pop makes a stand or electronica rears its tentative head?

A mere figment of Nuccini’s imagination three years ago, when the lover and student (now: ‘dottore’) of literature and philosophy decided to succumb to the urge of combining his aural drafts with spoken word and poetry, in 2003 he started to record a few tentative guitar sketches and delve into music software to translate his ideas into sound.
At the same time, through his collaboration with label mates Zucchini Drive, Corrado got to know Belgian wordsmith Tom de Geeter (aka Siaz) and soon came to realise that the latter’s raps made a wonderful match for his haunting instrumentals. Nomad (Cavemen Speak) and Californian emcee Bleubird were roped in for further vocal duties and make up the core team behind “Matters of Love and Death”.
To add some further, elusive nuances to his Opus Magnum, Corrado decided to open his studio gates to further friends and family: fellow Giardini di Mirò member Jukka Reverberi contributed guitar and bass, Scottish singer Kaye Brewster some whispered, ethereal backing vocals and radio DJs Andrea Girolami and Fabio De Luca their inimitable presenting talents. Further guests include Andrea Scarfone (guitarist of Julie’s Haircut) and rapper Filkoe, while Scott Da Ros, founder and boss of Canadian label Endemik, added some touches to the intro and Emmanuele Reverberi enriched the album with his soulful violin and trumpet play.

Directing all his guests through a musical thicket with a sure hand and even surer taste, Corrado Nuccini creates a fertile, common ground for classically trained violinists, self-confessed indie rockers and restless emcees. So, if you need any help in filing this record, don’t turn to us for suggestions – we recommend the window display.

Artist Bio:
Corrado Nuccini plays guitar for Italian post rock band Giardini di Mirò who can look back on two long players (a third is currently in the works), a remix album and several singles and EPs. Famous for their formidable live performances, GdM have played hundreds of shows all over Europe since their inception almost a decade ago.
Although his first solo album “Matters of Love and Death” is still awaiting release, word on Corrado’s production talent is already out: He was called in to produce three tracks for the Swedish / Belgian hip-hop duo Zucchini Drive, contributed beats to Bleubird’s upcoming album and even Anticon mastermind Sole has been in touch. Expect remixes for Scott da Ros as well as a collaboration with Populous (Morr Music) soon.
