Label notes 08/25

Johannes Schardt

While the holiday season is usually slow, things at 2nd rec have been quite busy. While we both spent some time on vacation with our families, Christophe and I still managed to set up the new label headquarters.

Right now, it’s a pretty bare room: three desks and boxes of records. It still feels a bit like a storage space, but we already love hanging out there. And once the shelves, sofa, and other furniture arrive, it’ll be an even nicer place to spend time together.

The office is in a beautiful old school building in the heart of St. Pauli. We share it with dozens of other creative businesses and artists. Since everyone else is just moving in too, the whole place is buzzing with “fresh start” energy. It feels like we’ve landed in exactly the right spot at the right time.

Alongside setting up the physical work space, we’ve started building our digital one as well. Notion is where we collect ideas, keep notes, and organizing to‑dos. Still on that to-do list: figuring out a proper CRM (Customer Relationship Management) setup. For the curious: we use Disco to manage our catalog and build the EPKs we send to press and retail contacts. Our shop and website run on Shopify.

As I mentioned last month, the Nitrada album isn’t a one‑off. We’ve started talking with a few artists about future releases, and honestly, these conversations are what make all the grunt work worth it.

One of those projects had us spending quite a bit of our limited time this month on a grant application. For small labels like ours, a little extra funding can make a big difference. It helps us take risks, work with more artists, and, frankly, keep the lights on. So, fingers crossed. 🤞
