In the summer of 2001 Francesco Cantone (Twig Infection), Carmelo Sciuto (Jerica’s) and Tazio Iacobacci (Keen Toy, Pola) decided to pool their talents in Tellaro to concentrate on the quieter recesses of their previous musical projects. On their first, selftitled EP the three Sicilians deliberately allow song-writing to take centre stage, with arrangements reduced to the bare minimum of acoustic guitar, bass, drums and Cantone’s charismatic voice, only interspersed with the odd electronic snippet or piano section. A subdued, optimistic melancholy suffuses these songs, a broken romanticism that nevertheless allows touches of an unhealthy threat to bubble just underneath the surface.
